Case 7 - Charles Kendall Freight, UK

ETD Texas 15.03.00 ETA LHR 06/07.04.00 DELIVERED BT 10/11.04.00

These photographs relate to a shipment consisting of a 16 metre diameter satellite dish which we imported on behalf of British Telecom from Kilgore, Texas, in a mixture of 7 flat rack, open top and general purpose containers.

Delivery of the containers to site in Texas and the shipping arrangements were handled by our agent in Houston, Joco.

The shipment was cleared at Felixstowe by our own office and the containers delivered to Feltham for unloading.

Before delivery to BT’s communication centre in Madley, Herefordshire, all the containers had to be unloaded at Feltham and reloaded on to flat bed vehicles to comply with BT’s instructions.

Delivery to BT Madley was completed over a two day period with specific details of all freight loaded on each vehicle being faxed to them in advance of the delivery.

The white tube in the photograph is the pedestal base for the satellite dish and weighed nearly 8 tons.

The turret on which the dish rotates weighed over 12 tons.

The crates contain the concave white panels which, when bolted together, form the actual 16 metre diameter dish.

Note:

Whilst unloading this shipment, a deadly female black widow spider, complete with web and eggs was found in one of the containers.   It was collected within hours by the RSPCA.
